LOVE
When Christ was asked to define what was the greatest of all of the commands, He said to them, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40)
Love, in the Scriptures, is shown to have its origin in God as it is the center of His nature. "Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." (1 John 4:8)
God's love towards man is based upon His determination to do what is best for man, not based upon whether or not man is worthy to be loved. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16), "but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
When a person accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior they gain God's capacity to love through the indwelling Holy Spirit of God "and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who God has given to us." (Romans 5:5)
This God-given ability to love enables the believer to love and please God. "For the Love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died, and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised." (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
This God-given ability to love enables the believer to love and serve others. "For if you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity of the flesh, but through love serve one another." (Galatians 5:13) "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:34-35)
At FBC we make it a priority, as a body, not only to join together for worship, but also for fellowship. Every Sunday, following our AM service, we gather in our fellowship hall for a time of refreshments and to enjoy time together. The first Sunday of each month we have a covered dish fellowship, and throughout the year different church families host either a fellowship or a "mini-church" in their home. Our men meet every Saturday morning at 7:30 am for a prayer breakfast, and our women have a great time together every month with their "Ladies Night Out".
Our goal is to minister to the whole family, and we are in the process of developing children and teen ministries.
